Anyone. Everyone can find something to contribute and an opportunity that appeals to them with the Foundation. The Foundation has opportunities to suit everyone. We'll help you find the one that fits your skills and interests and, if needed, we'll provide training.
There are numerous meaningful and enjoyable ways that you can support primary health care in your community. Volunteers can be involved in all aspects of the organization, and their experience will largely be based on what they make of it. Volunteers are encouraged to think about what they want to accomplish at GPHSF so that they will be able to help us using their specific skills and interests. Here are just a few examples of possible opportunities:
- Engage in overall strategic leadership of the Foundation's business
- Deliver fund raising and awareness
- Sitting as a member of a board or committee
- Providing general clerical support such as data entry, filing, photocopying and posting mail
- Helping to organize or volunteer at a special event
- Assist with mailing and communication projects
- Provide support and resources to other volunteers

As a volunteer, you will connect with Foundation staff to negotiate activities that engage you and help to fulfill the Foundation's mission.

Absolutely. Students can help with special events and administrative work during school breaks. By volunteering at the GPHSF you will gain volunteer time toward the hours you need to graduate from high school. You will also gain valuable experience.
Is there a Screening Process for Volunteers?
Depending on the volunteer position you are interested in, you may be interviewed, have your references checked, or be asked to provide a police background check. The screening process allows us to get to know you better and to help you find out more about our Foundation and the opportunities we offer. This will allow us to create a mutually beneficial match between you and the volunteer opportunity you're assigned.
We also recognize our volunteers', staff, and donors' rights to protection from unsafe practices, people, and environments. We can only ensure this by taking steps to ensure every volunteer is screened and trained for the role they've been assigned.
Is there a Minimum Time Commitment to Volunteer?
The length of time varies from position to position. You can choose how much time you would like to give as a GPHSF volunteer. Whether you want to help out occasionally, or on an ongoing basis. We will work together to find a role that meets your availability and schedule. Your contribution is gratefully appreciated, whether it's a few hours a week, a month, or a year.

Most fundraising events and committee meetings incorporate evenings and weekends. Office and administration roles are done on-site during regular business hours.

How Do I Dress For Volunteering?
One of the attributes of a successful organization is professionalism. The Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation strives to be as professional as possible and this includes the appearance of our volunteers and staff. Volunteer should maintain an appropriate dress standard that is businesslike, neat, clean and in good condition. It is important to remember that as a volunteer you are a representative of the Foundation. For this reason we ask that you dress comfortably yet conservatively. The following are examples of items that are not suitable:
- Leggings/sweats (or other exercise-wear)
- Denims (except on Fridays)
- Garments with slogans that may be offensive to others
- Clothing that is overly revealing (bare midriffs, short skirts, very low cut shirts, etc.)
When Can I Start Volunteering?
Typically, upon submitting your application you should be contacted within one week. You will be invited for an interview with a Foundation staff member and/or Board member, and asked to submit two references. Once your references have been contacted and a suitable volunteer position exists, you may start once you submit a valid police background check.
