Cynthia Hamu
Cynthia was raised in Toronto and moved to Peterborough in 1979 to start a family. She believed then, as much then as she does now, that Peterborough is the perfect blend of being a city with a small town feel and was pleasantly surprised to find that it is also the birthplace of many leading-edge ideas, one of the most recent ones being the Primary Health Care Services of Peterborough and their Family Health Teams.
In 2008, Cynthia was presented with the opportunity to join the St. Joseph’s Care Foundation Board of Directors and she was eager to be part of this team whose focus was on community partnerships to enhance community health care needs. She believes that the transition to the Foundation forming a partnership with Primary Health Care Services of Peterborough [PHCSP], and the subsequent name change for the Foundation to Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation [GPHSF] was a natural fit with their goal to serve community-based health care services. Now serving as the GPHSF Board Chair and working with the dynamic and dedicated team of professionals who serve on this Board, she is excited by the prospect that the sky is the limit for the difference the GPHSF can make, along with your contributions!
When Cynthia isn’t working at her day job as Office Manager for The Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, or doing volunteer work, she enjoys spending time with her family. Since arriving in Peterborough, some of her volunteer work has included serving on the Peterborough Remembers Committee (Treasurer), Festival of Trees, Hospice Peterborough, Relay for Life, Canadian Mental Health Services, Block Parents, Kawartha Heights Parent Teacher Association, and the Peterborough Historical Society.
Cynthia has two grown children – a daughter, Mandy, who is a Clinical Counsellor with Community Counselling & Resource Centre and a YWCA Board Member; and a son, Joshua, who is a Combat Engineer with The Canadian Armed Forces. Cynthia and her family are committed to volunteering to make their community the best it can be.

Bill Casey B.A., M.A., has been actively engaged in local, regional and provincial healthcare reform strategies since 1998. He has played a vital role in the development of the business case in support of the new 490-bed hospital in Peterborough which opened in 2008. As Past Chair of the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Casey continues to have strong ties to the local business community.
In 2006 the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care approved Peterborough’s Networked Family Health Teams, at which time Mr. Casey assumed the role of Executive Director, and began implementation of the business model and vision for Peterborough’s five Family Health Teams.
Mr. Casey was instrumental in the evolution to Charitable Status for Primary Health Care Services of Peterborough which is now partnered with the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation, enabling the two organizations to work together to develop and financially support opportunities that further the delivery of community‐based care for the residents of Peterborough city and county.
