GPHSF, Your Family Health Team Foundation, was formerly known as St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation, which opened its doors in 1985, and has a rich history in Peterborough.

    • Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph’s, the Foundation’s mission was to raise funds and provide capital for expansion, medical equipment and educational opportunities for hospital staff.
    • In 1999, St Joseph’s Hospital closed its doors but the Foundation continued to be dedicated to supporting patient care and became known as the St. Joseph’s Care Foundation.
    • The Foundation recognized an opportunity to support healthy aging initiatives for the region’s seniors and raised $2 million to support senior living.
    • In 2005 the Foundation expanded its vision to support partnerships focused on bridging gaps in community-based health care.
    • In 2009, after overwhelming success of its initiatives and community partnerships, the Foundation decided to rebrand to Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation.
    • Shortly after, a partnership was formed with the Peterborough Family Health Team (formerly Primary Health Care Services of Peterborough) in support of community-based healthcare services.
    • Legacy funds continue to support community based healthcare in areas such as ophthalmology, oncology, equipment, pastoral and continuing medical education.
    • While the Foundation continues to primarily partner with the Peterborough Family Health, in recent years we have funded projects with the YES Shelter, Trent University, YWCA, Peterborough Youth Services, Cardiac Rehab Alumni and more
    • As GPHSF, Your Family Health Team Foundation, funds have also been created to support the emerging needs of the community and the Peterborough Family Health Team with youth mental health, concussion awareness and education, INR (stroke prevention), child loss, perinatal loss and infertility, the compassion fund and more.
